That was fun. Very different from Dragon*Con but it grew on me over the weekend. My main issue was the fact that they didn’t have the schedule available until Friday morning at the con.
The weekend was split between cosplay panels, webcomic panels, and hanging out waiting. I have learned that I need to get a lot of new make-up, but I think I’m managing to put it on right. Considering at the make-up panel, which was led by someone who has won cosplay competitions, she thought I was a guy since I was Harry at the time. Once I find my camera I’ll post pics.
This tutorial by MKToxic is what I’m using for my crossplaying and I think it works quite well. It just takes a while to get it done right. I stopped before the facial hair step since Harry doesn’t have any, outside of major stubble which requires an entirely different technique. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
My first panel on Friday was with Fred ‘Piro’ Gallagher. Co-creator, writer, and artist of the awesome webcomic MegaTokyo. I was Didi/Death for that day, but that didn’t detract from the awesomeness of finally getting to see Fred. He got there a little early and the panel ahead of us ran a little long. So he hung out in the hallway with us! Never would have happened at Dragon*Con. I love it! I hate to say it but that was the highlight of the day. Honestly I can’t remember what else I did. It was fun, though. Just a blur.
Wait, I do remember one other awesome panel from that day. It was US Comics vs Manga. That was a lot of fun. The panelist is quite a fan of both. Half of the panel was pitting the two against each other. She had us take sides, with a few of us sitting in the middle because we’re fans of both, and then would suggest one character for each and have us convince her why ours would win. It was a lot of fun. The first one was Blade vs Alucard. No question, Alucard won. It got more fun from there.
I’ll continue tomorrow. I don’t want to ramble on too long.
